After reading this blog I feel like Mr.Fisch is bias against teachers who are technologically illiterate. My mother is a high school teacher and she is about as computer savvy as a 2 year old. She can not check her email or even a simple text message on her phone but she knows how to teach. Its not how well you know today's technology. Its how well can you relate the material to the class.
I have had teachers who were experts on the SMARTboard but they could teach for crap. All they knew how to do was draw a problem up on the SMARTboard, solve the problem, and then ask if anyone has any questions. That is not teaching, that is showing the class what you know. It takes a special person to teach and be affective. The technology doesn't make the classroom, the teacher makes the classroom.

Do you think the students in your mother's classes will be well prepared for the 21st century? Is your mother willing to learn to use new technologies? Is she trying to learn them?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Keating. I think Mr. Fisch was being rather harsh...
ReplyDeletei know what you mean my mom is just now learning how to use myspace and facebook and she actually communicates with other teachers from her school with it. I think that it is all how they look at it. She never would of gotten one if other teachers wouldnt of told her to get one.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you brought this up, Keating. I have had good teachers who didn't use technology and teachers who have. I think it depends on the circumstance. Teachers should be required to use a certain amount of technology in the classroom but not too much because of the fact they some teachers can get stressed out!
